Decisions decisions. . .

At this point I should be happy to just have gotten to placement (and don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic) but now I have a hard choice ahead of me.

I am currently qualified, eligible, and competitive for not 1 but 2 programs!
So here is the layout:

Environmental Education and Awareness
  • Program leaves June-ish (they are working on the date)
  • Ready to roll on this program (no more experience required)
  • They have enough people interested in this program that it is still competitive
  • Here is the peace corps info on the program
    • Teach in elementary and secondary schools and provide environmental education to youth groups and individuals outside school settings
    • Oversee organizational development of environmental groups
    • Promote sustainable use of land- or marine-based resources
    • Develop and promote community-based ecotourism and other income-generating activities for communities living near protected areas
    • Teach soil conservation, forestry, and vegetable gardening practices
      • www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=learn.whatvol.env.enved
OR...

Forestry
  • Program Leaves September-ish
  • I need some more growing experience
  • They desperately need people for this program and I meet all but the above criteria
  • Here is the peace corps info on the program
    • Conduct soil conservation and reforestation projects
    • Oversee watershed management and flood control
    • Encourage production of sustainable fuels
    • Improve agroforestry practices, such as fruit production
    • Build live fences and alley cropping
    • Encourage preservation of biodiversity, sometimes near national parks or other reserves
    • Utilize GIS/GPS in land use planning
      •  http://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=learn.whatvol.env.forestry

Both of these programs are great and offer many things I am looking for, but I'm going to have to make a choice soon.
